EURO-3C Presents Its Vision for Federated European Telco-Cloud-Edge Infrastructure at FITCE Mobile Congress 2026
The EURO-3C project was represented at the FITCE Mobile Congress 2026 in Belgium, where Anastasius Gavras (Director of Eurescom) delivered a keynote presentation entitled “EURO3C: Federating Europe’s Telco-Cloud-Edge Infrastructure”. The presentation highlighted the project’s vision for building an open, secure, interoperable and sovereign European digital infrastructure through the convergence and federation of telecommunications, cloud and edge technologies.
As Europe advances towards increasingly intelligent, distributed and autonomous networks, Telco-Cloud-Edge convergence is becoming a key enabler of next-generation digital services. EURO-3C addresses this challenge by developing a federated pan-European infrastructure connecting more than 70 nodes across over 13 countries and bringing together at least 15 infrastructure providers.
During his keynote, Anastasius Gavras presented how EURO-3C aims to overcome fragmentation between telecommunications, cloud and edge ecosystems by enabling interoperability, seamless federation and coordinated service delivery across multiple providers and national boundaries. This approach is central to strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty while supporting innovation and the deployment of advanced digital services.
The keynote was introduced by Johann M. Marquez-Barja, Professor at the University of Antwerp and Head of the Programmable & Intelligent Networks (PIN) team at IDLab (UAntwerp – imec), who highlighted the contributions of his research team to the technological developments underpinning EURO-3C.
Reflecting on the event, Johann M. Marquez-Barja also emphasised the growing international relevance of Telco-Cloud-Edge convergence and federation. Having delivered a keynote on Telco-Cloud Convergence in Ecuador the previous day, he noted how both presentations, delivered on different continents, addressed the same fundamental challenge: enabling federated intelligence across the telecommunications, cloud and edge continuum.
From European research collaboration to large-scale infrastructure deployment, EURO-3C is working to translate the vision of digital sovereignty into practical technological capabilities. Its participation in FITCE Mobile Congress provided another opportunity to share this ambition with the wider telecommunications and research community and highlight the importance of collaboration in shaping Europe’s next-generation digital infrastructure.
