EURO-3C Officially Launches at UC3M, Madrid to Build Europe’s Federated Telco-Cloud-Edge Infrastructure

The EURO-3C (EUROpean 3C Networks for Secure Telco-Cloud-Edge) project officially launched with a three-day Kick-off Meeting held from 7 to 9 July 2026 at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), bringing together representatives from the project’s 87 partner organisations across Europe.

The meeting marked the beginning of an ambitious collaborative effort to develop a secure, interoperable and federated Telco-Cloud-Edge infrastructure that will strengthen European digital sovereignty and accelerate the deployment of next-generation digital services.

Establishing a common vision & Advancing the technical roadmap

Throughout the kick-off meeting, partners aligned on the project’s technical, business and organisational foundations. Discussions focused on creating a federated infrastructure capable of connecting cloud, edge and telecommunications resources across Europe while ensuring interoperability, trust and security by design.

Over the three days, partners presented the objectives and priorities of each technical work package.

Sessions explored the development of the EURO-3C Blueprint, resource management, multi-level federation, AI-enabled orchestration, security, pilot infrastructure and validation framework. The consortium also reviewed the project’s 9 use cases, which span sectors including automotive, transport, energy and public protection, demonstrating how EURO-3C technologies will be validated in operational environments.

Technical discussions reinforced several common priorities:

• Building a federated European Telco-Cloud-Edge infrastructure based on interoperability.
• Reusing existing standards and open-source technologies whenever possible.
• Embedding AI, security and trust across every architectural layer.

Partners discussed how federation can enable European providers to collaborate while remaining competitive, and explored different federation models, customer roles and value creation mechanisms.

Public safety, telecommunications, transport and energy were identified among the priority sectors that will help demonstrate the project’s impact.

Looking ahead

The kick-off concluded with a strong sense of momentum and a shared commitment to delivering practical, high-impact results.

With a shared vision and clear roadmap now established, EURO-3C has officially begun its journey towards building a federated, secure and interoperable Telco-Cloud-Edge ecosystem that will strengthen Europe’s technological leadership and digital sovereignty.
