EURO-3C Presented at the European Commission’s Edge Observatory Workshop

EURO-3C was presented at the Edge Observatory Workshop, organised by the European Commission’s DG CNECT on 10 June 2026 in Brussels. The workshop brought together experts from across Europe’s edge computing ecosystem to discuss the current state of edge deployment and the future of Europe’s digital infrastructure.

During the event, Javier Garcia Rodrigo, Innovation and Strategic Policy Lead at Telefónica and Coordinator in the EURO-3C Management Team, introduced the vision and objectives of the EURO-3C project, highlighting its role in advancing Telco-Cloud-Edge convergence across Europe.

His presentation emphasised several key messages shaping the future of Europe’s digital infrastructure:

• The transition from isolated edge deployments to a federated European edge continuum is becoming a strategic necessity.
• Interoperability, AI-enabled orchestration and trust frameworks are essential to enable large-scale deployment and seamless collaboration across infrastructures.
• Telco-grade edge infrastructures will play a pivotal role in connecting cloud services with next-generation connectivity across Europe.
• A strong demand-side perspective is needed to address real industry requirements, deployment challenges and the practical conditions required to scale edge services.

The workshop also explored the latest findings from the European Edge Observatory, including updated data on edge deployments across the European Union, barriers to wider adoption, policy recommendations, and the Observatory’s work on edge node taxonomy with a focus on security and climate neutrality.

EURO-3C was highlighted as one of the European Union’s flagship initiatives supporting the development of a federated Telco-Edge-Cloud infrastructure, contributing to the Digital Decade objectives and strengthening European digital sovereignty through secure, interoperable and scalable edge capabilities.

As EURO-3C is soon to be officially launched, the project will continue working with industry, research organisations and policymakers to help build an open, trusted and federated European Telco-Cloud-Edge continuum capable of supporting the next generation of digital services.
